Mr. Bu Weili from HBIS Wins WSA SteelChallenge-18 Steel Making Simulation World Champion

April 9, World Steel Association announced new World Champions of SteelChallenge-18 Steel Making Simulations and Mr. Bu Weili from HBIS, beating competitors from Europe, Africa, America, West Asia, East Asia and Oceania, won World Champion title of the industry category. This is a sixth Champion title since 2017 that HBIS competitors have won in industry category. HBIS Chairman Yu Yong, World Steel Association Chairman and NUCOR President and CEO Leon Topalian, HBIS Vice President Li Yiren attended the ceremony.

The challenge was to produce wire rod, used to make steel cord for car tyre reinforcement, at the lowest cost using steeluniversity’s electric arc furnace and secondary steelmaking courses in a combined simulation. To reflect the steel industry’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of its operations, there were carbon footprint requirements for the steel grade. Bu Liwei beats all competitors from four other regions and wins Champion title of industry category, once more, shows the strength of HBIS.

World Steel Association SteelChallenge Steel Making Simulation is the unique world wide steel simulation game in steel industry and a well known annul event in the industry. This year, more than 1649 players from 34 countries, 50 enterprises and 77 universities and institutes competed for the titles. November 29, 2023, HBIS Bu Liwei won the Regional Champion title of North Asia in the SteelChallenge-18 Regional games.

Bu Weili graduated from Hebei Science and Technology University and major of Automation. He is now an engineer of HBIS Tangsteel Well Automation Company Intelligent Manufacturing Department. He owns Tangsteel Technical Champion title, 4 patents of Innovation, and over ten titles of innovation projects and their IP rights.
